FAQ
Does it work for Japanese text?
Yes. Words are split with the browser's language segmenter (Intl.Segmenter), so Japanese without spaces is counted too, and sentences also break on 。！？. For Japanese copy, the character count and manuscript pages are useful guides as well.
How is reading time calculated?
It assumes about 500 Japanese characters or about 220 English words per minute, so treat it as a rough guide.
How are sentences detected?
A sentence ends at the Japanese 。！？, or where ".", "!", "?" or "…" is followed by a space or the end of the text.
